Being a cat, I can’t help but be a Dr. Seuss fan. I mean, come on, the man became famous for writing a book called The Cat in the Hat! And what could be better than that? See, now I’m even rhyming, just like him!
Although the Cat is my favorite Dr. Seuss character, he’s not the only one who wore a hat. That’s because the good Doctor was a big hat aficionado.
In fact, thanks to a recent New York Times article, I learned that Theodor Geisel collected hundreds of unusual hats that he kept in a secret closet behind a bookshelf, where they stayed until he had a dinner party. And then he insisted his guests wear them!
About a dozen of these hats are going on display to commemorate the 75th anniversary of his book, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. This exhibit is opening at the New York Public Library and then will travel to 15 other locations throughout the year.
Seeing as I’m Dr. Seuss’s biggest feline fan, don’t you think someone should give me an all-expense paid trip to NYC to see the original Cat in the Hat hat?
Of course, Molly thinks she’s a fan, too. But I look definitely look cooler in the hat!
